Finding time to spend one-on-one with your significant other is challenging right now, but it’s more important than ever.
How do you mark a special occasion during a lockdown when restaurants, hotels, and spas are closed? Keri and I found ourselves asking this question as we celebrated our sixth anniversary.
These past six years have been amazing. We’ve built three businesses, and we’ve had three amazing children. We’ve had our bumps on the road too. But like anything, if you fight for it, if you put in consistent time and effort, things get better.
Here’s what we did to celebrate our sixth anniversary: We brought the restaurant and the spa to us.
Money doesn’t solve everything
Believe it or not, one of the biggest issues we’ve faced together during the past six years has been money.
Having money doesn’t make all your problems disappear. If you’re expanding your business and getting bigger, you get evolving problems to deal with.
- When do we invest?
- When do we double down on something?
- When do we pull out of something that’s not working?
- How much do we spend?
- How much do we save?
- How much do we need in safety funds?
Our alignment on this improved a lot when we really leaned into it: We decided to track it all, come up with an overall plan, and check in weekly.
What used to be a source of potential frustration or anger has become something that’s working at a higher level. We feel better about that now than ever before.
Here’s what I think is key to any relationship, and has certainly been key for Keri and I during the past six years.
Take time to lean into your relationships. You still need time with your spouse when you’re not focused on your kids, not focused on your work. I know that’s harder because all of those lines are blurred; it can be hard to break away and have real time with your significant other. But it’s more important than ever to find creative ways to do that.
In 15 minutes, at 8:00PM EST, a new episode of my weekly vlog goes live. Tune in to find out how we got creative to celebrate our anniversary together!
